Steve Knightley
Lancaster University, Chaplaincy Centre, Friday 13th February 2009

Once again, Steve Knightley and Jenna Witts are returning to Lancaster and are fast becoming a fans favourite here in the North West.

STEVE KNIGHTLEY
“Great songwriting and instrumental flair. Songs of substance and stylish arrangements.” - Daily Telegraph

Steve’s successful solo tour in 2008 and release of his best selling solo album “Cruel River” has prompted him to once again hit the road Colin Irwin in Mojo wrote “The power of his writing can no longer be denied’. Accompanying himself on his usual array of acoustic instruments. Audiences are in for an evening of literate, haunting songs played with power and passion.

JENNA WITTS
Eighteen year old singer-songwriter Jenna already has a wealth of recording and touring experience behind her. In 2003 she co-wrote the haunting ‘Seven Days’ - one of the highlights of Show of Hand’s ‘Country Life’ CD. Then with Steve Knightley and Seth Lakeman she recorded ‘Western Approaches’ - a unique collaboration of the three West Country songwriters. This led to a successful nationwide tour in 2004. Jenna’s original songs are inspired by the sea and landscape of her native North Devon and accompanying herself on piano and guitar, she possesses an astonishingly mature voice and stage presence. Jenna’s first solo album was released last year, entitled “barefoot and eager”.

'Because We Can...Again' Touring March 2009

Singer songwriter, Martyn Joseph and poet and BBC Radio 4 presenter, Stewart Henderson pick up where they left off in 2005 with their promise to bring their song/poetry and 'evening of cosmic rambling' back for another outing with new material and some favourites from their sold-out album, Because We Can. It was this joining of musical and lyrical forces that saw them heading off to simultaneously entertain and worry concert going audiences, and this 2009 tour sees them taking in a month long tour, putting on shows from Belfast to Bedford, because, quite frankly, they don't want anyone to be deprived of their shimmering presence.

Since they last toured Martyn has continued to consolidate his reputation as one of Britain's outstanding and critically acclaimed performers. Mojo magazine; doyen of specialist music and national treasure, Bob Harris, The Boston Globe - all confirm what a stellar talent 'the Welsh Woody Guthrie' is. Since Martyn last toured with Stewart more press plaudits have rolled in, especially in response to Martyn's latest studio album 'Vegas', as Mojo praised it 'an album of brooding tension and intensity.' Add to that a relentless touring schedule in Britain, the States and Canada, including a prestigious 'special guest' tour with Ani DiFranco, it's not difficult to see how Martyn has become regarded as one of the best singer-songwriters of his generation.

Martyn's long time, songwriting partner, Stewart Henderson, with four co-writes on the aforesaid 'Vegas', has continued presenting 'Questions Questions' for BBC Radio 4, which has seen the programme become a staple of the Network. With over 6 years of this programme in the archive, Sony nominated and winner of a Jerusalem Radio Academy Award, Stewart's other programmes for Radio 4 have covered a wide repertoire of social history and popular culture. Whilst on the other side of the microphone Stewart's production credits include an Archive Hour special 'Farewell To Winston', on the funeral of Sir Winston Churchill, hailed by The Independent for it's telling and 'visual' atmosphere; 'Inside The Cavern,' the 50th anniversary programme celebrating 'the best of cellars', complete with Cilla remembering all, and 'Farewell To Lionel...' a first person testimony programme on the man behind Oliver! The distinguished radio critic of The Daily Telegraph, Gillian Reynolds, says of Stewart as a broadcaster and a poet, 'Someone who understands the packed power of words, the importance of their use and measure.'

So sit back and be ready to hear a BBC Music Award winning performer, and National Curriculum set poet bring their songs and verse in a unique presentation of humour and 'small anthems'...because they can....
